1. Introduction
These systems are based on SBR, Acrylic, or Vinyl Polymers, improving the adhesion, flexibility, and impermeability of cementitious materials.
They are used in thin-section non-structural repairs and surface protection.
2. Types
Type | Composition / Base | Typical Area |
SBR-Based Mortar | Styrene-Butadiene Rubber latex blended with cement | Thin patch repairs, floor toppings |
Acrylic-Based Mortar | Acrylic emulsion polymer for superior UV resistance | Exposed facades, fine repairs |
Vinyl Copolymer | Vinyl-acrylic blend for cost-effective waterproofing | Bathrooms, plasters, levelling layers |
3. Codes & Typical Properties
Code | Parameter |
EN 1504-2 | Surface protection systems |
IS 9103 | Admixtures for concrete |
ASTM C580 | Flexural strength |
- Performance Parameters
Property | Typical Range |
Bond Strength | ≥1.0 MPa |
Elongation | 5–10% |
Thickness | 2–10 mm |
Service Area | Vertical / overhead / thin surface |
- Consultant Guidance
- Choose SBR for economical patch repairs or waterproof mortars.
- Acrylics where UV exposure is high (external RCC).
- PU or hybrids where movement and flexibility are required.
- Check substrate dampness — SBR tolerates moisture; epoxy/PU do not.
